Why a Hybrid e boat might be for you?

Hybrid E-Boats Description

Fancy something a little more unique than a standard boat? Then a hybrid electric boat just might be the one you’re looking for.

But what is a hybrid electric boat? And how does it differ from a standard narrowboat?

Well to answer this we have to look at the power source on a standard narrowboat; the main
power source would usually be a diesel engine, whereas on a hybrid boat it consists of two power sources: an electric engine that powers the propeller and a backup diesel generator that will kick
in automatically and charge the batteries as they begin to get low. Also you don’t need to moor up for this as this does it for you even while you are cruising!

But even still why would most people consider a hybrid?

Well the hybrid has a lot of eco-friendly qualities; a hybrid almost has zero emissions except from the diesel generator, however most
come with solar panels so when you are cruising on a hot summer’s day you may not need a generator at all! But having a back up generator offers something different as it means you don’t have to find a place to charge up the electric engine every night which would give you more flexibility on where you can moor up and travel.

One of the most popular perks of owning a hybrid is that there’s no noise coming from the engine meaning you can have a peaceful cruise along the waterways in almost near-silence.

It is definitely something to consider if you don’t fancy a diesel engine, we were lucky enough to have had the chance to make our first ever serial hybrid electric boat in 2024, her name is “Enchantress” and we had the pleasure of taking her to The Crick Boat Show 2024.

In the gallery below you will find pictures and a description of how this project came to life and the journey it has been on.
